Federico Estol is an uruguayan photographer and artivist. He currently works as a visual storyteller producing stories in Latin America, his long-term projects are focused in the relationship between cultural identity, inequality and social justice. In addition, he is the artistic director of the international festival SAN JOSÉ FOTO and editor of photobooks at El Ministerio Ediciones. His works are represented by East Wing Gallery Doha-Berlin.

 

Estol holds a bachelor's degree in photography from the UPC-Barcelona Tech University and a degree in popular education from MFAL Franciscan Multiversity. His work has garnered awards including Emergentes award at Encontros da Imagem festival (Portugal), IILA-FOTOGRAFIA award (Italy), Critical Mass Photolucida award from the Oregon Center of Photography (USA), FELIFA best International photobook award (Argentina), Jury award at Lenzburg photofestival (Switzerland), Latin American photobook award from Montevideo Center of Photography (Uruguay) and Expert Award of the Lishui Photography Museum (China).

 

He has also been a finalist for the Paris Photo–Aperture Photobook Award (France), the Kaunas Photo star prize (Lituania) and the Global Peace Photo Award (Germany)

His photography has been exhibited in galleries, cultural centres and festivals around the world, including the Kunsthal Art Museum (Netherlands), Format Festival (UK), Village of Photography (South Korea), Benaki Museum (Greece), Blue Sky Gallery (USA), Angkor Photo Festival (Cambodia), Photographic Centre Nykyaika (Finland), Ras Al Khaimah Art (United Arab Emirates), Getxophoto Festival (Spain), Casa Nacional del Bicentenario  (Argentina), Head On Photofestival (Australia), Museo de la Ciudad (México), Fotofestiwal Lodz (Poland), Lagos Photo (Nigeria), Addis Foto Fest (Ethiopia), Montevideo Center of Photography (Uruguay), The Photobook Museum (Germany), MACRO Museum (Italy) and GNration (Portugal).

 

His projects has also been featured in international news networks such as The Guardian, Internazionale, Die Zeit, China Newsweek Magazine, El País and Financial Times.

His works are in various private and public collections such as the Institute of Latin American Studies IHEAL of the University Sorbonne in Paris, FOLA Latin American photo library in Buenos Aires, Lishui Photography Museum China and the Tbilisi Photography & Multimedia Museum.

Federico Estol es un fotógrafo y artivista visual uruguayo. Actualmente desarrolla proyectos a largo plazo que exploran la relación entre la identidad cultural, la desigualdad y la justicia social. A su vez es director artístico del festival internacional SAN JOSÉ FOTO y editor de fotolibros en El Ministerio Ediciones. Sus obras son representadas por la galería East Wing Doha - Berlín.

Estol es graduado en fotografía por la Universidad UPC-Barcelona Tech y diplomado en educación popular por la Multiversidad Franciscana de América Latina. Su trabajo ha obtenido reconocimientos como el Premio Emergentes en el festival Encontros da Imagem (Portugal), Premio IILA-FOTOGRAFIA (Italy), el premio mejor fotolibro internacional en 2018 del festival FELIFA (Argentina), el Critical Mass - Photolucida award del Centro de Fotografía de Oregón (EE. UU), el Jury Award en el festival de Lenzburg (Suiza), Premio al mejor fotolibro latinoamericano del Centro de fotografía de Montevideo (Uruguay) y el Expert Award del Museo de la fotografía de Lishui (China).
